I loved Nebraska City, but it is harder and harder to want to spend an entire day there anymore due to the lack of decent places to dine and shop like just a few years ago. Many stores have odd hours, making it hard to figure out when/if they are open, and local diner favorites Johnny's Corner Café and Mary's Café, close up very early, no dinner hours at all, even on tourist weekends, the time they could make the most money by being open. Yes, there are fast food chains and other mediocre places on the south end of town, but if I want that, I can get that without the long drive. I hope someday this town will thrive again, but right now it seems to be giving up and I visit far less often. I hope there is a plan of action to revive Nebraska City soon, it is sad to drive through and see all the empty storefronts and restaurants that can't afford to stay open long enough to make money.
